WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT)?

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (also known as BHRT) is a means of replacing hormones that are no longer being produced naturally by the body. Not only are we replacing deficient hormones, but we are trying to balance current hormones to eliminate symptoms of menopause and the aging process. The hormones we are working to balance for women are Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone.

At Performance Medical Clinic, your evaluation will include a detailed consultation with a Physician, and extensive blood analysis to identify both deficiencies and imbalances. Not only are Bioidentical Hormones extremely effective, they are safer than their pharmaceutical counterparts and other synthetic hormones. Bioidentical hormones are the exact chemical structure that your body intended to use.

Keep in mind Bioidentical Hormones are always superior to synthetic, pharmaceutical alternatives.

PERIMENOPAUSE VS. MENOPAUSE

Throughout the aging process, our bodies change and develop certain hormone imbalances and deficiencies. Menopause is defined as the time at which menses has stopped for one year, however, symptoms can become apparent several years before actual menopause occurs. This is referred to pre-menopause or perimenopause.

Perimenopause most often starts in women ages 40-44, but can begin in some women as early as their 30s!

These feelings can be uncomfortable and life altering, but can be alleviated and even eliminated completely with Hormone Replacement Therapy.

SYMPTOMS OF PERIMENOPAUSE & MENOPAUSE? :

  • Hot Flashes

  • Night Sweats

  • Headaches

  • Mood Swings

  • Weight Gain

  • Decreased Libido

  • Fatigue

  • Trouble Concentrating

  • Trouble Sleeping

  • Loss of bone- increasing risk for osteoporosis

WHAT HORMONES ARE WE BALANCING?

  • ESTROGEN imbalance is responsible for night sweats, hot flashes, dry skin, and also contributes to fatigue.

  • PROGESTERONE imbalance is responsible for sleep difficulties, depression, irritability, anxiety, mood swings, migraines, and palpitations.

  • TESTOSTERONE imbalance is responsible for low libido or drive, inability to orgasm, fatigue, memory issues, poor concentration, and magnification of joint pain and stiffness.

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES COME IN MULTIPLE FORMS:

HORMONE PELLETS

100% Bio-identical Hormone Pellets. Pellets are inserted every 3-4 months through a very quick and easy office procedure, with no downtime. After insertion, capillaries begin to form around the pellets. As blood flows over the pellets, our bodies slowly absorb the hormone. Pellets are “cardiac driven”, meaning that as your heart rate increases, more hormone will be released as the body needs it. This is unlike other therapies, which are time released, and therefore prevents the “roller coaster” effect of those delivery methods.

With Bio-identical Hormone Pellets, the hormones are absorbed by your body gradually. Your body has more of an opportunity to gradually acclimate to the presence of added hormones without becoming overwhelmed. Pellets provide a more stable and consistent hormone therapy experience.

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE PELLETS

Hormone pellets have several advantages over other hormone administration methods, including:

  • Consistency - Pellets release hormones into the bloodstream steadily and consistently, which helps maintain stable hormone levels and minimizes fluctuations. This can lead to more consistent symptom relief and help prevent discomforts like hair loss, mood swings, and hot flashes.

  • Convenience - Pellets are implanted under the skin and only require a brief in-office procedure approximately every three months, eliminating the need for daily or weekly medication routines.

  • Customization - Performance Medical Clinic can customize the dosage of pellets to optimize outcomes.

  • Absorption - Pellets allow for direct absorption of hormones into the bloodstream, avoiding the liver and gastrointestinal system.

  • Control - Pellets allow for control over the release of hormones so the body can absorb more or less as and when it needs them

CREAMS

Applied to skin daily at home, creams can be a preferred method for delivering hormones for women, as they can be easily titrated as hormone needs change. Creams can also be stopped for a few days per month to allow hormone receptors in the body to maintain their sensitivity to circulating hormones.

In most cases, if multiple hormones are needed (Estrogen, Progesterone, and Testosterone) all the hormones can be compounded into one cream for ease of use.

Creams are generally easier to apply and may cause less discomfort than injections, but they can take up to 15 minutes to absorb. They may be less responsive to exercise, and can take several weeks of consistent use to improve symptoms. Hormone Cream absorption can vary by individual, making it difficult to predict outcomes.

INJECTIONS

Injections are usually given biweekly to women to maintain Testosterone levels. They are relatively painless and can be given at home. Injections allow for more precise dosage calculations, which can help ensure that the amount of testosterone is not too high or too low. Injections are absorbed more efficiently than creams, which can lead to higher testosterone levels and quicker results.

TESTOSTERONE INJECTIONS
