Shoulder Pain

The shoulder has a wide and versatile range of motion. When something goes wrong with your shoulder, and causes shoulder pain, it hampers your ability to move freely and can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort.

Non- Surgical Shoulder Pain Treatments:

Steroid Injections

If you have shoulder pain, doctors can offer a variety of treatments to relieve your symptoms. One option is to inject medication into your shoulder. There are different types of injections, and they’re an important part of treatment for many people.

Steroid Injections are powerful anti-inflammatory medications. They can offer fast-acting relief of inflamed muscles, joints, tendons, and bursa. Steroid injections offer significant, very rapid pain relief usually within 24 to 48 hours. On average, the pain relief lasts from 6 to12 weeks.

Platelet Rich Plasma (Stem Cell Therapy)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is obtained from spinning a patient’s blood in a centrifuge at high speeds. This process isolates a concentrated serum of platelets.  These platelets are then activated and re-injected into the body. Once injected in the body the platelets release growth factors which active stem cells, leading to healing of injured tissues and new tissue growth.

PRP injections are commonly used to treat the following shoulder conditions:

  • Tendonitis
  • Arthritis
  • Rotator cuff injury

When PRP is injected into the damaged area, it leads to a mild inflammatory process of the involved tendons, ligaments, and cartilage which triggers the healing process.  As a results new tissue begins to develop.  This procedure may eliminate the need for more invasive treatments, such as surgery.  Studies suggest improvement in 80-85% of pain in most patients. This procedure has been used widely by professional athletes over the last 10 years and now with expanding technology it is readily available to the general public.
